Terms & Conditions
1. Introduction
These Terms & Conditions apply to all clinical services provided by First Medical Consultants Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”). By booking an appointment, you agree to these terms.
2. Clinical Assessment & Professional Discretion
All appointments include a clinical consultation and examination. Treatment will only proceed if it is clinically appropriate and safe.
Our clinicians may decline, postpone, or modify treatment if:
-
There is inflammation, infection, or obstruction
-
The procedure may cause harm
-
You do not meet clinical criteria
-
You have not disclosed relevant medical history
-
Proceeding would breach professional standards
This forms part of delivering services with reasonable care and skill, as required by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
If treatment cannot proceed for clinical safety reasons, the consultation and assessment remain chargeable, and no full refund is due.
3. Partial Service Delivery
Many services consist of multiple components, including:
-
Consultation
-
Examination
-
Clinical assessment
-
Treatment (where appropriate)
If treatment cannot be completed due to clinical reasons (e.g., inflamed ear preventing wax removal), the appointment is still considered partially performed, and fees remain payable.
A full refund is not provided where treatment is not possible due to clinical findings.
4. Fees & Refunds
4.1 General Refund Policy
Refunds are only provided where required under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, specifically where:
-
A service has not been performed with reasonable care and skill
-
A service has not been delivered as described
Where a clinician exercises professional judgement to avoid unsafe treatment, this does not constitute a failure of service.
4.2 No Refunds Are Provided For:
-
Treatment declined for clinical safety reasons
-
Pre‑existing conditions preventing treatment
-
Symptoms that persist or worsen due to underlying issues
-
Patient misunderstanding of the service
-
Failure to follow aftercare advice
-
Non‑attendance or late cancellation
4.3 Cancellation Policy
-
More than 3 working days’ notice: full refund
-
Less than 3 working days’ notice: no refund
-
Non‑attendance: no refund
5. Service‑Specific Terms
5.1 Ear Wax Removal (Microsuction)
-
Wax removal will only be performed if the ear canal is safe to treat.
-
If the ear is inflamed, infected, or obstructed, wax removal may be declined.
-
Consultation and assessment remain chargeable even if wax cannot be removed.
-
We do not guarantee full wax clearance in a single appointment.
-
Follow‑up appointments, if required, are charged at the standard rate.
5.2 Blood Tests
-
All blood tests include consultation, phlebotomy, and laboratory processing.
-
Once a sample has been taken, no refund can be issued.
-
Turnaround times are estimates and may vary depending on laboratory processing.
-
Abnormal results may require GP follow‑up; this is the patient’s responsibility.
5.3 ECG (Electrocardiogram)
-
ECG includes consultation, electrode placement, and recording.
-
We do not guarantee a specific diagnosis or outcome.
-
If the ECG cannot be performed due to skin conditions, intolerance, or patient factors, the consultation remains chargeable.
-
You may be advised to seek GP or hospital follow‑up depending on the findings.
5.4 Driver Medicals — Mandatory Requirements
To ensure your medical can be completed on the day, you must comply with the following requirements. Failure to do so will result in the appointment being cancelled and no refund being issued.
Required Documentation
-
You must bring the correct DVLA or licensing authority form.
-
DVLA guidelines require a valid photo ID. If ID is not provided, the medical cannot proceed and no refund will be issued.
Vision Requirements
-
Bring your glasses and/or contact lenses if you use them.
-
As the eyesight test must also be performed without correction, bring a container for your contact lenses.
-
The eyesight test is performed using a 3m Snellen chart. DVLA standards require:
-
6/7.5 in one eye, and
-
6/60 in the other
-
-
If you do not meet this standard, the medical will be recorded as failed.
-
The doctor will complete the remainder of the form, and you must obtain corrective lenses and have the vision section completed by your optometrist.
Medical History
-
You must bring details of any medical conditions, regular medications, and hospital appointments.
-
Medication details must include name, dose, and start date.
-
Without this information, the doctor cannot complete the form and no refund will be issued.
Personal Details
-
You must complete the ‘Your Details’ section of the form before attending, including:
-
Current address
-
Registered GP details
-
Taxi Medicals
-
It is your responsibility to confirm whether your licensing authority accepts medicals completed by a doctor who is not your own GP.
-
Some authorities require the doctor to have access to your medical records.
-
If this applies, you must bring your records to the appointment.
-
If the medical cannot be completed due to licensing authority rules, no refund will be issued.
Blood Pressure Requirements
-
DVLA guidelines state that a blood pressure reading above 179 systolic or 99 diastolic results in an automatic fail.
-
If this occurs, you must see your GP for treatment before rebooking.
-
Further appointments will be charged at the standard rate.
Language Requirements
-
You must be able to understand and communicate with the doctor.
-
If the medical cannot be completed due to a language barrier, and no interpreter is provided, no refund will be issued.
6. Patient Responsibilities
You agree to:
-
Provide accurate medical history
-
Bring required documentation
-
Follow all clinical and aftercare advice
-
