How We Help
We will arrange a medico legal appointment for you with an independent medical expert who specialises in the injuries you have suffered – all you have to do is attend the medical appointment. The expert will usually be less than 6 miles from your home. Throughout the process we keep you informed of all relevant dates via letter, email or text message.
In some cases the medical expert may ask to see your medical records. This is usually if you have had a previous medical problem that could affect how quickly you recover from your injuries. We will obtain all your medical records for the expert at no cost to you. All you need to do is sign and return our Form of Authority giving us permission to contact your doctor/hospital.
Following your appointment, the expert will send their medico legal report to us, we will check that it is factually correct then forward it to your Solicitor. In the medico legal report, the expert will give their professional opinion on your injuries and likely recovery times. The medico-legal report will follow the format laid down by the Ministry of Justice and will be used by your solicitor to support your personal injury claim.
First Medical Consultants is a leading medico legal reporting company. We specialise in arranging examinations with doctors and medical experts in relation to personal injury claims.
This appointment is to examine you to understand in greater detail the injuries that you have sustained and the rehabilitation that you may require. This appointment is for examination only and not for treatment.
Your instructed solicitor has asked us to contact you to arrange a medical examination. We have a nationwide network of medico legal experts who provide an independent assessment of your injuries to ensure that you receive the maximum levels of support in the shortest period possible.
In order for us to produce a detailed medico legal report about your injuries sustained in the accident, we need to gain access to your previous GP/Hospital records. This allows the examiner to take into account any previous medical problems that you may have experienced in the past.
FIRST MEDICAL CONSULTANTS fully comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. We only request copies of your medical records and not the originals. Once your case has been completed, First Medical Consultants destroy the copies we hold. All data transferred from First Medical Consultants to your solicitor is sent by recorded delivery.
If you receive an authorisation form from us, it is extremely important that you return it to us as we cannot progress your case without it. The quicker we receive your completed authorisation form, the quicker we can action your medico-legal report so as not to delay your claim. It also helps us if you fill the form out in neat and tidy block capitals in a black pen.
Please call us as soon as you receive this letter if you cannot make the appointment. We can rearrange the appointment to a time that is convenient providing you give at least 48 hours notice. If you cancel at short notice or do not attend the appointment, you may be personally liable for the cancellation charge.
We recommend that you look up directions on the internet or phone the surgery in advance of travelling. To help with this process, we have provided a contact telephone number and an address for the surgery where your appointment has been booked.
After you have been to your examination, the specialist will provide a medico legal report which they will pass to us. First Medical Consultants will then examine that report to check it contains all the information required by the solicitor. Once we are happy with the report, First Medical Consultants will pass it onto your solicitor who will use it to continue your claim.
Yes, you will be provided with a copy of the medico legal report following the examination.
